The annual reports of the Municipal Council of the French Concession on line

As part of a collaboration between the Institut d’Asie Orientale and the Institute of History (历史研究所) of the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (上海社会科学院), the Virtual Shanghai Project is making available a set of annual reports (Compte rendu de la gestion) of the French Municipal Council (Commission d’administration municipale) of the former French Concession in Shanghai. The Institute of History generously made available its collection of Compte rendu de la gestion for this major digitizing operation and to share it with the worldwide community of scholars.

The current set does not include all the years during which the French Concession existed in Shanghai, but we hope to supplement our collection as we find additional issues available for digitizing. The set of Compte rendu de la gestion currently includes the following years: 1910-1926, 1929, 1932-1936, 1939-1940. All the files are available in text-searchable format.

The collection of Compte rendu de la gestion is available in BN-IAO, the digital library of the Institut d’Asie Orientale, in the Periodical section.

    Hi Christian,
I am trying to access the annual reports of the French Concession and also the municipal reports of the International Settlement but the links appear to be going to a Shanghai rental apartment company. Are there any updated links for this? Many thanks.

    • Hi James,

The URL of the BN-Asie has changed, hence the weird rental page. I updated the links and it works. You can Google the titles of th ereports and Google usually finds the links in the top results. Thanks.
