New glossaries on Virtual Shanghai

Virtual Shanghai has recently posted two new resources for scholars and students who very often face many complexities when dealing with proper names and various designations of people, companies, institutions, etc. To help with these difficulties, we propose two glossaries. The first one is a  Chinese-English glossary of foreign institutional names, a list of terms in English and French used by the foreign municipal authorities that managed the foreign settlements in Shanghai. The second glossary is an extensive list of Shanghai company names in Chinese and English. As these names appeared in both Chinese and English sources, but under a different designation depending on the language used in the medium, it is often difficult to identify these entities properly. We hope that these two glossaries will smooth out such difficulties.
