When it comes to the historiography of Shanghai or China, produced by Chinese or foreign scholars, or the state of translated works in Chinese by foreign scholars or foreign writers in general (mostly for the pre-1949 period), there no one like Prof. Ma Ju (Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences). He has created a 上海史研究通訊 group on Wechat on which he regularly posts news and resources on the history of Shanghai.
Ma Jun compiled a bibliography of all the papers published in Shilin (史林), the historical journal of the Institute of History at SASS, on the topic of French history and Sino-French relations between 1986 and 2010. Did this topic go out of fashion after 2010 or will Ma Jun add a supplementary list later? I asked the author, who is now in lock down in Shanghai and still keeps at it in his scholarly endeavors with the same energy.
